With evenings becoming dark earlier and cooler weather setting in, a lot of things can cause your skin to dry out and become irritated. Your hands feel rough, your lips get chapped, and flakey dry skin on your face becomes burden each time your try to apply your make up.
It’s time to get out your big winter coats and turn your heating up a notch or two, but make sure you take extra care of your skin as well.
The cool weather of autumn and winter means humidity levels tend to drop, causing the moisture in your skin to dry up. It makes your skin feel dry and rough, especially on your hands and lips. You’re more likely to get dry skin during the colder months, so swap your skincare products for more nourishing alternatives. It is especially important to hydrate your skin because as we get older, the ability to make natural oils, such as sebum, declines.
Nothing is more relaxing than coming in from the cold to a nice hot bubble bath, but this isn’t great for your complexion as it causes your skin to dry out quickly. Keep your baths and showers warm, not hot, for the sake of your skin!
As we have said in a previous blog post, protecting your skin from the sun isn’t just for the summer months. It’s important to use SPF protection, especially on your face, all year round. Exposure to UV radiation can accelerate the skin’s ageing process, causing it to look dry, wrinkled, loose and dull.
Finally, the run up to (dare I say the word…?) Christmas can lead to winter comfort eating of things like chocolate, biscuits and other acne inducing foods. It’s best to have a healthy diet and stay away from sugar-filled snacks during the winter months to avoid break-outs just in time for party season.
So make sure you are warm and cosy this season but keep your skincare regime full of rich hydrating products, like our Rose Renew skincare range, to keep your skin looking gorgeous.
