WHAT TO DO ABOUT FINE LINES AND WRINKLES AROUND EYE AREA

Here's what our founder, Sophie, has to say...

At Baie, we’re often asked how to deal with fine lines and wrinkles around the eye area.

In this guide, you will read our founder, Sophie’s, advice about fine lines and wrinkles and how to manage them naturally.

Your genes play a part.

Fine lines and wrinkles typically start to be visible from our 30s, as we get older, our skin loses its ability to renew itself. Especially the area around our eyes - which is the most prone to ageing because of its thinness, and so, fine lines appear later developing into wrinkles.

If you have fine lines and wrinkles, first take a look at your relatives (if you’re able to). If your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or siblings have these traits, you likely inherited them through your familial line.

If your wrinkles are hereditary, we suggest starting early in skincare or start as soon as you notice them and embrace a healthy skin care routine and lifestyle.

The role of self-care.

The beauty industry conditions us to simply cover up what we don’t like about our skin without considering why it looks the way it does. Sophie, on the other hand, encourages us to dig a little deeper.

Looking into your self-care routine is one way to do it.

Are you moisturising every day? Do you wear sunscreen when going outside or when you're in front of your computer screen all day? Are you eating a healthy diet and do you drink the right amount of fluids? Do you exercise? Or if applicable, are you considering stopping smoking?

These things can greatly affect not only your skin but also your overall health.

Finding the root cause.

There are different types of wrinkles that one might have. These types occur as a result of different causes.

One type is known as Dynamic wrinkles which develop due to the repeated contraction of muscles underneath the skin. These show up when the muscles are in use, like the ones that we see when we smile. Other examples of dynamic wrinkles are the ones that develop between the eyebrows and forehead and the folds near the corner in our eyes.

Another type is Static wrinkles, which are caused by skin damage and are visible when our muscles are at rest. Some contributors of this type are poor nutrition, sun exposure, and smoking. Over time, dynamic wrinkles become static wrinkles.

The last type is the Wrinkle folds, which are caused by the age-related sagging of our face-related structure.

Knowing these types and their causes can guide us on what to do to help minimise our wrinkles and fine lines, especially in the eye area.

Managing fine lines and wrinkles in the eye area in your 30s and 40s.

So much about good skin care comes from the inside out. If you can’t be sure that your wrinkles and fine lines are hereditary, check in on your self-care routine.

Make sure you’re drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, and taking care of your physical and mental health through exercise, nutritious food, meditation, or other stress-reducing activities.

To reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the eye area , one famous home remedy to try is to apply, cooled wet antioxidant-rich green tea bags, then press them firmly over your closed eyes. The polyphenols, a chemical compound found in green tea , can help prevent wrinkles according to some studies and it also is very relaxing as part of your self care ritual.

Loving care for your skin.

Having a healthy skincare routine is another way and what Sophie recommends. Starting early is the best you can do but starting as soon as you realise is still worthwhile. It doesn’t have to be complicated, but choosing the right and natural skincare product will make a big difference.

“I started getting into using eye creams etc quite young around 19 because I was really into skincare. I think starting young means that you don’t miss the critical time when your skin slowly starts to lose collagen and elasticity.”

Adding eye cream, day and night, to your skincare routine can help reduce the visibility of wrinkles and fine lines in the eye area.

It is good to look for an eye cream that has use natural ingredients and is brimming with antioxidants, like our Rose Renew Regenerating Eye Cream, to fight free radicals which can contribute to fine lines and wrinkles as well as hyaluronic acid to firm, tighten and smooth out fine lines.

Another amazing ingredient to look out for is “Red Algae Extract”, which has been shown in clinical studies to smoothen the area around the eyes by 74% within an hour.

Nicknamed as the “The Instant Wrinkle Minimiser” and for good reason.

Porphyridium cruentum extract is a natural skin tightening active ingredient with scientifically proven effects.

Scientifically Proven Effects

  • Smoothes various types of wrinkles around the eye area, forehead and hands
  • Improves the micro relief in the eye area
  • Provides an immediately noticeable and sustainable tightening effect

Porphyridium cruentum extract provides a physical tightening effect which is intense, immediately noticeable and lasts for several hours.

That is why Red Algae Extract is one of the key ingredients of our Rose Renew Regenerating Eye Cream and the reason it actually works in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles!

The Regenerating Eye Cream has scooped up 9 best eye cream awards in the 3 years since its launch!

“I love this stuff! I can feel the skin tightening around my eyes within minutes of application, it’s thick so it doesn’t travel into my eyes and it smells amazing!” -Stephanie L. , Rose Renew Regenerating Eye Cream Customer

“I've only been using this cream for a few days but the lines around my eyes have noticeably decreased. You only need a tiny amount, so the cream is very good value but has a luxurious feel. Will certainly purchase again.” - Elizabeth J. , Rose Renew Regenerating Eye Cream Customer

‘Our Rose Renew Regenerating Eye Cream is my favourite followed by the Regenerating Serum. Our Eye Cream is so silky and smooth and feels beautiful on the skin. It has a great instant tightening and lifting active made from Red Algae plus Edelweiss stem cells and Hyaluronic acid to name a few of the superstars….’

Be cautious not to apply your eye cream too close to the eyes and use your ring finger to dab it around the area, the skin around the eyes is thinner than the rest of the face.
