Five Simple Ways you can Help Mother Earth

General understanding of how our actions impact our planet is improving, but there’s still a long way to go. How we choose to live as an individual can make a difference, and the more each of us tries to make simple lifestyle changes, the more our environmental footprint will reduce. What you do does make a difference, and it’s never too late to make changes.

Whatever your drive is to live a more sustainable lifestyle, here are five simple ways you can help mother earth…

The chemicals that we use end up in our water supply which has a negative impact on crops and can be harmful to animals. Consider replacing the chemicals you use at home with natural alternatives. When it comes to cleaning products, there are various all-natural options on the market, or you can even make your own. These are often just as effective as the harsher chemical-packed alternatives. The same goes for any beauty products that end up down the drain. Micro-beads made from plastic and found in scrubs and exfoliating products are now banned, but you can make further improvements by using face and body washes that are all-natural.

Wherever possible, recycle, but better still, reduce consumption. Recycling is a great start, and of course, we can’t limit our consumption completely. Recycle what you can, sell on or donate unused items to keep them out of landfills and reduce the drive to make more, or limit what you buy new where possible, instead choosing to buy preloved.
Our Baie Circular programme can help support you here. Some of our products include packaging that has plastic or plastic and metal mix, which requires specialist recycling to ensure it’s dealt with responsibly. General recycling doesn’t offer this, meaning many cosmetic products aren’t recycled. We offer you the opportunity to send back your empty products to ensure every element is recycled.
For every product you return, we will reward you with 10 points (min return of 5 products at a time, no max ). When you have received 50 points, we will give you £2.50 off your next order, and when you have received 100 points, you will receive £5 off your next order.

Did you know that large-scale food production accounts for around 25% of greenhouse gas emissions? In choosing to eat sustainably, you can help drive down the demand for this. Choosing to buy food from farmers that work to conserve natural resources is ideal, but even choosing to buy from local farmers helps, as does eating foods from natural sources, instead of processed foods.

Despite an increase in awareness about the negative impact that plastic use has on our planet, people around the world still buy on average one million plastic drinking bottles every single minute and use five-trillion single-use plastic bags each year. Only 9% of plastic gets recycled. As a starting point, invest in reusable canvas shopping bags, and choose to drink tap water or make your own fizzy drinks at home. If you want to take things further, have a look at all the products that you use at home that are in plastic containers, and consider how you can use plastic-free alternatives.

If we were to add an additional 2.5 billion acres of forest worldwide, we would be able to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2050. While this might sound like a simple fix, it’s a lot of trees, but if just a few of us planted a tree or two, it’s achievable.

Just starting small, with one of the above steps will make a difference, and over time, you can build on living a more sustainable lifestyle.
